Communication inundates us every day of our lives. It is pumped into our eyes and ears from the day we wake up until the moment we go to bed. Notifications remind us, Email overwhelms us. Social media desensitizes us. There's so much communication that it no longer tells us anything.
So when you're communicating with your clients (students and parents for teachers, teachers and community for leaders), how do you ensure that communication is powerful? There are 3 communicative keys that unlock every person's door.
3 Keys to Successful Communication
Keep It Pithy - When your message is long, people tune out. You have a short moment of time to connect and an even shorter time to keep their attention. Get in and get out.
Inspiration Invites - When the message doesn't inspire, attention spans expire. If you want your reader to keep reading, your message should connect with their hearts before their brains.
Subject Matters - Stay on point and don't let tangent thoughts and ideas take your message off topic. When you lose the topic, you lose the follower.
Do you have the keys?
Communication requires 2 things for it to actually be communication.
Communication must be clear and kind, and
It must be received by the listener in order to complete the communication loop.
If your communication isn't clear or kind, listeners will tune out and turn off, and you communication will no longer be communication, but merely information dissemination that will ultimately be ignored.
