Overview of the COURSES

The Teacher’s Guide professional learning course is designed to personalize learning for teachers and leaders based on John Wink’s Hierarchy of Instructional Excellence. The structure of these courses allows leaders to work with teachers to create their own professional learning plan.

  • WinkEdLearning Support - Regular reports provided to campus and district leaders of teacher completion of TNT sessions.  Regular reminders to leaders will be sent to support teachers in signing up for courses, staying on track, and completing them.

  • Suggested Leadership Support - Ensure teachers get logged into the app, request to join the sessions and follow up with teachers on a regular basis to discuss what they have learned  from the sessions and what they have implemented in their classrooms.

3 Pathways for Learning the Hierarchy​

  • Below are the 7 levels in the Hierarchy, an overview of each level, and the timeframe of each course.

Pathway 1 - Structure for Learning

  • Level 1 - Resources for Learning
    • Objective - Learn how to set up the classroom and all resources to make students resourceful and engaged learners. 

    • Timeframe - 20 minutes per week for 7 weeks. 

      • Course ends after 9 weeks and there are 2 weeks with no tasks.

  • ​​Level 2 - Routines and Procedures
    • Objective - Learn how to build strong routines for virtually any situation that yields excellent behavior and strong work ethic. 

    • Timeframe - 20 minutes per week for 6 weeks. 

      • Course ends after 9 weeks and there are 2 weeks with no tasks.

Pathway 2 - Culture for Learning

  • Level 3 - Relationships for Learning
    • Objective - Learn how to establish great teacher-to-student and student-to-student relationships that inspire all students to build powerful relationships with their learning.  

    • Timeframe - 20 minutes per week for 7 weeks. (1 quarter)

      • Course ends after 9 weeks and there are 2 weeks with no tasks.

  • ​​Level 4 - Engagement in Learning
    • Objective - Learn how to build structure and processes that get all students highly engaged from bell to bell. 

    • Timeframe - 20 minutes per week for 12 weeks. (2 quarters)

      • Course ends after 1 semester and there are many weeks with no tasks

Pathways 3 - Strategy for Learning

  • Level 5 - Rigor and Mastery
    • Objective - Learn how to create rigorous instruction, assessments, questioning and feedback that grows all students.  

    • Timeframe - 20 minutes per week for 13 weeks. (2 quarters)

      • Course ends after 1 semester and there are many weeks with no tasks.

  • Level 6 - Creative Strategies for Individual Students
    • Objective - Learn how to differentiate the rigor you have develop for individual students through intervention and extension. 

    • Timeframe - 20 minutes per week for 12 weeks. (2 quarters)

      • Course ends after 1 semester so there are many weeks with no tasks.

  • Level 7 - Student and Teacher Leadership
    • Objective - Learn how to grow and develop in every student and within yourself as well to help your school. 

    • Timeframe - 20 minutes per week for 7 weeks. (1 quarter)

      • Course ends after 9 weeks so there are 2 weeks with no tasks.

Course Components​

  • Each week has one task to complete.

  • Learn It - Each course has 2 to 7 videos as part of the course. 

  • Support It - This component shows learners how to use the PLC process to build team plans that grow all teachers.  

  • Evaluation - This component allows learners to use their state evaluation rubric to reflect on their current performance using the part of the rubric that best aligns to the course. 

  • Make your Plan - This component allows learners to use resources at WinkEdLearning to make their plan to implement their new knowledge in the classroom. 

  • Share with your Leader - This component allows learners to visit with their leader what they have implemented from their learning.
